Treasure hunting mishaps: sewing my buddy's head up in Venezuela

My buddy Kelly came down to Venezuela back in the 1990's to help out a bit on a project I was managing for a Venezuelan co.

I was keen on a very heavily jungled and forested drainage several miles from our base camp. Kelly was accompanying us on this prospecting foray.

I had a Venezuelan prospector that I had hired to go out and bring back samples from the drainages to the west of our camp. The samples had a good showing of gold and a few small Diamonds. I gathered up the boys and we headed out on a small expedition to check it out.

We were in the rainy season and the trails were very slick and on the downhill side of a ravine we were all sliding down through a slick section and Kelly slid into a tree with swordlike spines that made for a very nasty slice on his head.

As you can see it was very bad. but with a few quick stitches and tying  his hair across the wound we were back on our way. He is a pretty tough guy!!!!
