Adventures in the Venezuela jungle on my day off from gold prospecting

Adventures in the Venezuela jungle on our day off from gold prospecting

Adventures in the Venezuela jungle on my day off from gold prospecting

I was in Venezuela back in the mid 90's and we were mapping out an unexplored  deep jungle region in central Venezuela.

Our hand held GPS unit would not receive satellite signals under the triple canopy. I brought my tree climbers, very similar to an electric linemans poleclimbers, outfitted them with longer spikes and was able to go into the lofty canopy and get our bearings.

The beauty was indescribable, Birds and insects, but most curious was the indigenous indians of the area would come out of the jungle and stare at me up in the tree's from time to time.

On one particular climb one of the ants, the ( Venti Quattro) which have a very nasty sting got me on the elbow and it swelled up to the size of a softball, hurt like hell!

I kept flicking them off my climbing rope but one must have came up my leg but anyways I keep finding some good old picture's of exploring one of the most remote and fascinating places on the planet! Someday I hope to tramp around these jungles again.
